• My friend, Mimi Doe, author of "Spiritual Parenting" and "Busy But Balanced" has a terrific newsletter on the topic of helping parents and children develop and honor their spirituality. Here's a quote from a recent newsletter. "Help your children to trust their intuition. Help them understand that their internal voice is a way for God to give them direction. Direction may come through someone else's words or actions; it may visit your children through nature, in a sparkling sunbeam, or in the beauty of music or art. A violin's weeping or an ocean's thundering may be God's sounds, for there is no limit to the manifestations of this Divine presence."

From this place of power, I gather strength to stand firm in the face of fire, to be calm in the midst of thunder. When I emerge from this sanctuary, the world has not changed, but I have. And in my changing, a whole new world is born."

I'm frequently asked about meditation for busy people. I love the brief and simple exercise described below. It only takes a few moments and you'll feel centered, happy and at peace. What more could one want?

A Simple Meditation
from ZenWise Selling, by Lee Godden
This brief time out is a gift to yourself; a simple, one-minute meditation that can be done privately, in your chair, at work.

Sit up straight and breathe slowly and deeply, allowing your belly to swell with each inhalation. Smile as you breathe. Think or softly say the words following to yourself in time with your slow, deep breaths.
1) Breathing in, I calm body and mind.
2) Breathing out, I smile.
3) Breathing in, I notice this moment.
4) Breathing out, I enjoy this moment.

Repeat the four steps for a minute or so. Acknowledge any "pop-up thoughts," then gracefully let them go.
